Warming Winter Ginger Shot Recipe

Ingredients (makes about 6 x 50ml servings):
- 2 inches fresh ginger root
- Juice of 1 orange
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
- 1/4 cup hot water (not boiling)
Optional Twists:
- Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth.
- A splash of apple juice can make it even cozier.
Step 1: Prepare the Ginger
Start by peeling and roughly chopping a 2 inch piece of fresh ginger root.
If you don’t have fresh ginger, you could substitute this for ½ teaspoon of ginger powder.

Step 2: Juice the Citrus
Juice one orange and half a lemon using a hand juicer, or just by squeezing out the fruit if you don’t have a juicer. Strain out any seeds.

Step 3: Combine Ingredients
Add all ingredients to your blender, I used a thermomix but any good quality blender will do.
Add your chopped ginger and citrus juices:

Next, add your cinnamon powder (¼ teaspoon) and honey or maple syrup to taste (I used 1 tablespoon of honey).

Finally, add your ¼ cup of hot (not boiling) water.

Step 4: Blend Until Smooth
Turn your blender on and blend until smooth. In my thermomix, this involved blending for 1 minute on speed setting 8.

Step 5: Strain the Mixture (Optional)
If you enjoy a smooth texture, the next step is to strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve. You can also just drink it without straining if you want the full punch of the ginger.
I tend to strain mine and add the leftover pulp to my compost or chicken bucket.

Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
You can serve this in shot glasses, sherry glasses (like me), or just a mug. Drink it right away while it is warm for a warming winter immune boost!

Ingredients
- 2 inches Fresh ginger root (or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)
- Juice of 1 orange
- Juice of ½ lemon
- ¼ tsp Ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
- ¼ cup Hot water (not boiling)
Instructions
Prepare the Ginger
- Peel and roughly chop the ginger root into small pieces. If using ground ginger, measure out ½ teaspoon.
Juice the Citrus
- Juice the orange and half a lemon. Strain out seeds but keep the pulp if you prefer a more textured shot.
Combine Ingredients
- Add the chopped ginger and citrus juices to a blender.
- Add ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder and 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste).
- Pour in ¼ cup of hot (not boiling) water.
Blend Until Smooth
- Blend the mixture on high speed until smooth. Most blenders will take about 1 minute.
Strain the Mixture (Optional)
- For a smoother texture, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve.
- Compost or discard the remaining pulp. You can skip this step if you prefer a more robust texture.
Serve & Enjoy
- Pour into shot glasses, sherry glasses, or small mugs.
- Serve warm and drink immediately for the best warming effect.
Notes
- Ginger Substitution: If fresh ginger isn’t available, ground ginger works just as well.
- Cinnamon Boost: Feel free to adjust the cinnamon for a spicier flavor.
- Storage: Ginger shots are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Warm slightly before serving.
- Serving Size: This recipe yields approximately 6 x 50 ml servings, perfect for small doses of immune support.
